How to determine if a deoxidant has exhausted its effectiveness?

If the deoxidizer changes color/consistency, stops suppressing odors or protecting the product from spoilage, it will lose its effectiveness - these are the main characteristics.

Main indicators of efficiency used

  • Appearance changes: Deoxidizers will change color (such as turning black, yellow, or uneven) or consistency (if initially dry, they will compact, open, or become wet).

  • Odorless: Stop suppressing unpleasant odors (fish, fish, mold) in the packaging - this means it no longer binds to these substances.

  • Product deterioration: Products protected by deoxidizers deteriorate before their shelf life (turning black, showing mold, changing taste) - deoxidizers cannot function properly.

  • Weight change (some types): Iron based deoxidizers may increase weight when reacting with oxygen - if there is no or little change in weight, the efficiency is low.

Additional checks (if any)

  • Oxygen test: Use an oxygen indicator - if it shows the presence of oxygen in the packaging, the deoxidizer will fail.

  • Packaging information: Check the shelf life and storage conditions of the deoxidizer - if they are damaged, efficiency may decrease.
